Recreation at Emmanuel Home

Monthly Recreation Schedule

There is always something to do at Emmanuel Home!

Social isolation is a common and serious problem that many seniors face. That is why keeping both socially and physically active in a vibrant and supportive retirement community is so important for residents who call Emmanuel Home their home.

We offer a wide range of leisure and recreational activities for seniors in both independent and assisted living facilities, including our in-house Keep Fit program, entertainment and special events, games featured on our weekly Games Night and regular community outings. Shuffleboard and billiards are always available to residents and our recreation program offers something for everyone!

During the summertime, residents can enjoy the beautiful flower gardens planted in our courtyard as they relax or spend time with family and friends in the gazebo or sitting on park benches. Emmanuel Home also has a gardening area where residents can plant vegetables like green beans, tomatoes, potatoes and peas.

Emmanuel Home also has an on-site library, the well-appointed Gerry Segger Library, that offers an excellent selection of books and computers to use. This room also provides a quiet space for residents to relax and reflect.

Resident Support Services

The Resident Support Services program supports all residents of Emmanuel Home. It provides social, physical, emotional and spiritual support for them. To provide these services, Emmanuel Home recently welcomed Tini Oort as the new Resident Support Coordinator.

The Resident Support Coordinator works with other staff to help the residents to achieve the greatest degree of independence and quality of life possible.  She helps residents and their families to adjust to living in Emmanuel Home by providing information, encouragement and support where needed. She may also support residents and their families dealing with difficult issues of dying and death and grieving.

The Resident Support Coordinator ensures that residents develop relationships with other members of the Emmanuel Home community and helps them to maintain contact with friends, family and other community members. She also develops and maintains relationships with local pastors and churches to facilitate pastoral care for the residents.

As opportunities present themselves, the Coordinator will organize educational and counselling services such as seminars, workshops and support groups which are designed to help residents to live healthy and independent lives. In certain circumstances she may also develop individual activity plans with residents and their families that will reduce isolation and loneliness and help to encourage community among the residents.

The Resident Support Coordinator will continue to identify social, recreational, psychological, and educational services in the community that will meet the needs of residents. She will also develop and maintain connections with other agencies, professionals, government and the community for the benefit of all residents of Emmanuel Home.

For more information contact Tini Oort at 780-478-2051 or toort@emmanuelhome.ca

Spiritual Support

Emmanuel Home is a Christian senior living facility that provides services to meet the spiritual needs of our residents. We offer a Wednesday morning devotion time provided by various pastors from the local Reformed Christian Community. Trinity Christian Reformed Church, our neighbour, provides spiritual support and service to residents through its pastor, Rev. Rich deLange.

Residents will also enjoy a bi-weekly Hymn Sing on Monday at 7:00 PM and bi-weekly Even Song on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
