November 4 Update

This email/letter is being sent out to our residents & their families.

Good morning, everyone,

I hope this email finds you well! November is here….wow!

I’m happy to say that Emmanuel Home continues to be free from COVID-19. This wouldn’t be the fact without the hard work and commitment of primarily our residents, but also our staff and close family members. Thank you for all that you’ve done, both personally and collectively, to keep our community safe.

The success so far hasn’t come without a cost, though, as we have had to make considerable concessions in how we live in community and close relationship with our loved ones. I want to acknowledge the challenges and difficulty that you have all faced over the past 7 months, and assure you that we take this balancing act between restrictions & changes vs. independence & community very seriously.

While Emmanuel Home is still clear of COVID-19, there are many of our friends and colleagues in the seniors’ living industry that are dealing with tremendous challenges. There are outbreaks in a few dozen seniors’ homes and continuing care facilities in the Edmonton zone alone!

I don’t have any specific updates/changes for you today. Overall, we appreciate the diligence of the Designated Support Persons who have been coming into Emmanuel Home, as well as the other loved ones who have used our common visiting rooms or visited outside. The new ‘normal’, as unwanted as it is, has been going relatively smoothly for a while now, and please know how much we appreciate everyone’s cooperation.

As we head into winter and the troubling upward trend in cases in Alberta, we will continue to take a very cautious approach over the next few weeks in terms of how we handle this entire situation. While the continued success is something to celebrate, we are also very aware that things could change in an instant. If any changes come down from Dr. Hinshaw’s office, we will let you know as soon as possible.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

In His grip,

Darren
